Krawczyk Grabs Penn Cycle Points Race Lead After First Race

Following two early-season rainouts, the 2012 Penn Cycle Points Race series kicked off last week. Fifteen cat 1/2 racers lined up for the 70-lap race. Though positions shuffled, Brandon Krawczyk (Revolution Cycle/Twin Six), Andy Kruse (Speedfix), Dan Currell (Bianchi), Dan Casper (Revolution Cycle/Twin Six), Matt Montesano (Speedfix), Luke Winger (Larson Flyers), and Pat Lemieux (Kenda/5 Hr Energy) took over the race early on.

Krawczyk varied his efforts throughout the race, tactically accumulating enough points to secure his win. Others took a more aggressive stance. Several times Montesano pushed the pace, breaking away with Casper aiding his escape. Despite their respectable distance from the field, the two were no match for the chasers who rejoined them to heat things up at the line for the 4th sprint.

With two sprints remaining, Casper broke away with Kruse and Montesano, but Krawczyk leapt over the top of the sprint at the home straight to clinch his win. Determined to take the final sprint, Montesano and Casper broke away with five laps remaining. At the bell Lemieux, Kruse and Krawczyk amped up their pursuit. Montesano took the final sprint with Casper, Kruse and Krawczyk right behind him.

Krawczyk tops the series leaderboard, followed by Casper, Montesano, Currell, Kruse and Winger. Three more races will determine the series winner.

Track Repairs!

Last Saturday, a big crew of volunteers battled the heat to keep the track in top shape. Eight boards were replaced along with reinforcements in several spots with battens. They put in a long day, working from 3PM until 10PM. We would like to thank everyone who helped, including:  Eric Ware, Allen Bellas, Derek Bellas, Dan Schueller, Megan Kelly, Linsey Hamilton, Chris Ferris, Adam Weitzer and Jen Fischer.

Scratch Race State Champions To Be Crowned

This Thursday, the elite men and elite women will battle for the MN State Scratch Race Championships.  The women will contest a 30-lap event and the Cat 1/2/3 men will cover 60 laps.  Linsey Hamilton and Andy Kruse (both Speedfix) are the defending state champions in this discipline.  These races will be hotly contested!
